Donald W. Derror

Donald W Derror, also known as Gramps/UNK/Don/Duck, 7-27-39 (76) passed away on Monday, Janurary 25, 2016 at Gulfside Hospice of Zephyrhills, Florida following a battle with renal failure.

He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Patricia(Gordon) Derror; daughters Pamela Trombley, Katherine Fichtner (John); four grandchildren whom he adored, Lindsy Karn (Steve); Michael Trombley, Kayla Jo Derror, and Trevor Fichtner. He also leaves behind two great grandchildren, Billy Martin Jr, and baby boy Karn who is due in July. Also many other loved family members. He was preceded in death by his son Rick in 2014, his parents and brother Norm. The son of Carl and Minnie(Scholl) Derror. He was a lifelong resident of Mancelona.

In his early years, Don would help out around the farm doing chores. He spent a lot of time with his cousin Mick. They enjoyed going to Wetzel Lake to swim, fish, and camp. They had some great stories to tell about those days! After graduating from Mancelona High School in 1957, he joined the U.S. Army in 1958 where he spent 13 months in Korea with the 37th Engineer Detachment. Their slogan was “WE CAN FIX ANYTHING BUT BROKEN HEARTS.” Discharged from the U.S.Army in 1961 he then met and married his wife in 1962.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, making wooden toys, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends. After both Don and Pat retired, they spent winters in Florida.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on April 9th at 11:00 a.m. at The United Methodist Church in Mancelona, Michigan. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Mancelona UMC. Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service.
In 2016, we are adding Memorial Tributes for our Church Family.
