Mancelona United Methodist Church
Pastor Kathy Steen (now Chaplin at Munson Medical Center) started this group to knit sweaters for Guidepost. Several ladies in the congregation got together and the "Knit Chicks' were born. We thank Laurie Kirby for our name. We encourage anyone to come. You don't have to knit or crochet, but if you'd like to learn, we have teachers. Over the five plus years, we have sent hundreds of sweaters to Guidepost - now to World Vision, for distribution. We also make hats for newborns at Munson Medical Center, and prayer shawls for anyone who needs one. Our group welcomes everyone - even if you would just like to socialize for an afternoon. Please join us and bring a friend. I promise you will enjoy yourself. We meet every Wednesday at 1:00 at the Mancelona UMC except when the UMW meets (second Wednesday of the month).
Social & Fellowship Opportunities
Our Nurture & Outreach Committee seeks to provide family-friendly activities in order to enhance our Christian friendships. Examples are Chili Cook-off and Game Night; Sleigh Ride; Snowshoeing Excursion; Traverse City Beach Bums Ballgame Outing; Kayaking on the Jordan River and more!
We are not only a church who engages in meaningful worship, we are also a church who knows how to have fun! Check out the News & Event page for up-to-date activities.
Nurturing Our Own
There are many ways in which we nurture our own church members. Cards are sent to those who are ill or hospitalized and meals are prepared as needed.
In the past, we have honored a special someone with the "Good Samaritan Award." This award honors someone who may be an unsung hero, doing the little things for our church that may go unnoticed, but nonetheless are deeply appreciated!
